    1967 Body Number

My 67 coupe (#8902) has a body number S3007. Since this is the 3007th body made at St. Louis, can one assume the remaining 5,895 cars built before mine were AO Smith production?

St Louis coupes had one body number and convertibles had a separate body number. Same for AOS.

So double (or more) your St Louis coupe number to get total St Louis bodies: maybe 6014 + . Rest is AOS, again split between coupe and convertible.

For 1967, their were 8504 coupes and 14436 convertibles built in total........so ratio of coupes to convertibles was a lot less than 1 to 1.

PS: AOS went out on strike early in the 67 model year production, so a lot of the earlier built cars from St Louis were St Louis bodies. Yours is in this early period.

      Thank you Larry.
So, does this S3007 body number mean this is the 3007th coupe body by St. Louis? Is there also another body with S3007 number, but is a convertible?

          Jeff

Your "S3007" Trim Tag shows a "STYLE" of "437" indicating Coupe.

That "S3007" Convertible will have a Trim Tag showing a "STYLE" of "467".

            Hello,

Quick question, the vin is #5554 with a December 7, 1966 (E07) build date. the body # is S3137. Does this mean it was the 3,137 convertible made so far in 1966 at the St. Louis plant?

            Thanks

              Jeff,

As others have said above there were four sets of Body Sequence Numbers (BSN's) for ‘67 Vettes (don't know if that was true all the way back to 1963 or not?)
              1. Style 437 (Coupe) built at St. Louis = S xxxx
              2. Style 437 (Coupe) built at Ionia, MI (Dow-Smith Body [formerly A.O. Smith]) = A xxxx
              3. Style 467 (Convertible) built at St. Louis = S xxxx
              4. Style 467 (Convertible) built at Ionia, MI (Dow-Smith Body [formerly A.O. Smith]) = A xxxx

So, St. Louis BSN “S 3137” is the 3,137th Body (Coupe or Convertible depending on the accompanying style code).

With a BSN that low there's definitely a BSN ending in 3137 for the St. Louis “sister” body of the opposite style listed above (Coupe or Convertible).

Also, there were (probably) two “A 3137” BSN's for a Coupe and its “sister” Convertible built in Ionia.

By the way, many think the “A” stand for “A.O. Smith” – technically it does not.
The ‘67 AM UPC 0 Sheet B2 VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION PLATE states the following:

BODY stamp the numerical sequence....as follows:
              “A” for outside purchased body
“S” for St. Louis Built body”

              hope that helps...
              thx,
              Mark
