    66 Seat Belt Position

Covid is at least giving me time to work on my car !

The AIM shows me where and how much torque to put on the bolts and nuts but is rather vague on the position . On A 66 , what position should the seat belts be ? When looking directly at them and looking at both inboard and outboard I would think inside at approximately 10:00 o'clock and outboard at two o'clock .
    Correct or not ?

    Thanks ,

    Jim

    Jim,
The bolts are socket head shoulder bolts. The arm rides in the shoulder of the bolt allowing it it pivot up and down somewhat. The carpet should be slit for the arm so it is not completely captured behind it resulting in excessive binding when the bolt is torqued down, a hole in the carpet for the bolt won't do since that will result in the carpet taking up the shoulder space and binding the arm. Pull back the carpet and install the arm and bolt and you will see what I mean. The arm will pivot on the shoulder bolt. It is OK to have carpet under the front part of the arm when you install, that will just make the pivot a little stiff up and down, but it will still move. Bottom line, the arm should be able to move up and down around the 10:00 position.

      Thanks Ed.

That makes sense . You were correct in that all I did was punch a hole in the carpet . That and the underlying pad give no room for play once you torque down the bolts and nuts .

I cut out the seat tracks to exacting specs given here on the forum , but found nothing about the seat belt cut outs , so I made them as small as was allowable . I will experiment a little and see how it goes . A little less carpet and a little less torque and I should achieve the desired effect!
