1967 C2 Emergency Brake Black Sliding Cover

Getting closer to being done with putting the new interior in the 67.

However, in 36 years I have never got this part on without cutting it. How do you get the Emergency Brake black sliding cover over the emergency brake and in the proper slot in the rear console.

Thanks for your help in advance!

    God Bless!

The "slider" should have a cut in it to facilitate installation. Place the slider on the shaft and then into the channels on the console. I believe the cut will be on the passenger side of the shaft when installed

Also the repo sliders are longer then originals and will bind up on the center console. So you need to cut them down

        Stephen,

You are a wealth of knowledge. Thank you.

The car did not come with this part 36 years ago and I put the cut in it then, but wondered if there was a better way.

        God bless!

          Keith,

          Thank you!

I must have done that originally 36 years ago. Any idea how much to cut off and should it be a little on each end or all on end. I already discarded the old one.

          God bless!

You only trim the slider on one side. The side that is at the bottom. The parking brake is set there is a gap that you can see down in. It looks bad but that’s the way it is. I think the measurement is in the judging manual

              Keith,

              Thank you!

I will play with it. I did buy the judging manual at the recommendation of another member. However, this car will never be Bloomington Gold. The engine is missing. I was told it went into a rail the week it was delivered new. No way to prove that. It really does not matter, It is not going anywhere. It is my baby.

              God bless!

                Stephen,

I do not think I ever thanked you for the help. I am sorry.

Thank you! As always you are a wealth of knowedge.

                God bless!

                  Ted------

The original parking brake lever seal ("slider") for 1967 was GM #3901995. This part was discontinued in February, 1985 and replaced by GM #333605. The latter was the seal used in PRODUCTION for 1974-76 Corvettes and SERVICE for 1968-73.

There are only two differences between the 3901995 and the 333605. The first difference is length. The 333605 is longer. The second difference is the side on which the "slit" is made for the lever opening (so one can get the seal around the lever). For the 3901995 the slit is on the passenger side. For the 333605 the slit is on the driver side. When the 333605 is used for the 1967 application, it needs to be shortened. It should be cut so that there are 9 "segments" on the lower end with the corners clipped just like the upper end. The upper end is fine just as it is-----29 segments on both the 3901995 and 333605.

The reproduction seals have the same length as all 1968-76 seals so they need to be cut as described above. Then, the slit needs to be added on the passenger side, 3 segments up from the bottom of the lever opening. Presto---you have the equivalent of the 3901995 seal and no one will know the difference. And, you won't have foolishly spent big bucks on an NOS 3901995!

I wanted to thank you all again, I did get this to work. For future users I thought I would add how I got it to work.

In the end I took the center console completely apart and put the emergency brake black slider on without cutting it. Then reassembled everything and yes I had a small hole showing down under the slide that was about 1/2 inch.

                        Thank you again!

                        God bless!

Are you saying that you got it on without cutting the slit next to the lever opening or are you saying that you installed it without shortening one end?

I shortened the end, but not as much as suggested. I did not have to cut the side. One of my son's had showed me how to twisted a wire on the door opener to get it on without taking it apart and that is what I did with the slide. I twisted it to make the opening bigger. I put it on first and then slid it into the channel in the center console. At first I did not think anything would show when done, but a little did.

                            I hope this helps.

Well, if you were to have the car judged I think the lack of the slit might cost you a point. That's a feature I understand the judges look for.
