    1957 gauges

What color should the back of the gauges be on a '57. As they tend to do the new JM's seam to invoke as many questions as they answer. The way it reads appears to say the backs should be the same kinda minty looking green as is inside the gauge. Just looking for confirmation that I'm reading this correctly? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond.

    Aaron,

Back of gauges are not painted CAD finish. Have seen some speedometers with the light green paint overspray on the back side, but they finish should be CAD, not painted.

Thanks Gary, we hadn't ever done it before, but this is the first '57 we've done since the newest book came out, and the wording made me question it. Thank you, I appreciate you responding

        Hi Aaron,
        I agree with Gary explanation.
Have attached a few pictures that show the gauges with a little green overspray

i agree with gary and dave; i've never disassembled gauges on our 57's and 54 that didn't have a green overspray, usually the areas facing the ground when installed, like dave's photo. . mike

I have a pretty much original untouched car (one respray in the 70's) #5681 that I have had for 50 years. I agree with the other posts in that its a dull cad plated backing. I didn't see any green overspray. See photos.IMG_0824.jpgIMG_0825.jpg

              Geary,

Appears there's some green paint overspray in your bottom photo.
