How much of a points hit is aftermarket floor insulation?

    Guys,

I'm installing the carpet and under padding on my 69 coupe and I opted to first install Hushmat to help keep it cool and quite. I'm planning on t******* it back in areas where the JG talks about inspecting the jute padding but still possible that some savvy judge may pick up on it. How much of a points ding is it if it's found?

I would think it would be a minimal originality points deduction since the jute padding and carpet are correct and correctly installed. Think of it like a dealer installed right side mirror or lugage rack on a C2. They would take a minimal amount of originality points for the missing body fiberglass and paint, not the addition of the luggage rack or mirror. Best to hide it to the best of your ability.

I'm sure you will get some C3 judges to clarify the points deduct.

Outta sight, outta mind. After you cut the heat shield back a little, glue the jute to the heat shield material

There should be no deduction unless the judges ask you to show them the backing. Judges are not suppose to touch your vehicle in any way or fashion without asking you first. Decline and if they jump in make sure you explain that rule to them!

            Michael,

That's the beauty of HushMat - it's so thing compared to all the others and not readily noticeable when installed.

There's a Restorer article about under carpet heat reduction products.

Sound deadener more than heat reduction; when these vendors start posting "R" values I'll start believing their claims...

Thanks, Gary. Insulation of the floor is on my to do list during the Virus stay at home order. I think this article has made my decision easy. After using this product for a while has it lived up to your expectations and is there anything you would do differently? Thanks in advance.

                      John,

Was satisfied and most importantly, my wife didn't complain about her feet getting hot after HushMat was installed.

Google for best price. HushMat used to give discounts to NCRS members when ordered directly from them.

Tom Ames sprayed bedliner on the firewall and underbody of a driver and it was effective if you don't care about appearances.
