    63 pumpkin - murphys law

Just had one more thing to do, install the driveshaft and the frame was finished, body arrives Saturday with the new paint job, life was good. Lubed up the driveshaft, inserted it into the back of the tranny and turned the rear wheels about 90 degrees to line up rear end trunion with driveshaft, and I hear a thunk. I look at my rear end and I snapped the snap ring for the drivers side half shaft.
So I now get to undo everything that was done to the rear of the car to remove the pumpkin. My pumpkin is a 3818753-N and has a weld mark on the casing where the casing was previously cracked. I was going to ignore it but now that I have to literally disassemble the rear to fix the differential I thought I would put out an all points bulletin for a 3818753 Casing. I checked the for sale ads, nothing there.
So if you have a 3818753-N casing that is empty that has a cast date before May 63 I am interested
If you have a 3818753-N casing that has a gear set in it that is dated before May 63 I would be interested.
I do not need the gear set but would buy it to get the casing. I place this post here because of suddenly needing the casing because I am literally 2 snap rings away from a complete rear end removal, so this would be my one and only time that I would consider the change. If you have one PM or send an email to m2-112@shaw.ca

I was literally seconds away from lowering the frame to the ground and it being "done" but I guess one should be happy it happened now rather than later.....although I am not feeling the "happiness" at the moment.

Try Ikerd's Corvette in Bedford, IN. I think that Pat passed away some time ago but I think it's still in business.

Try Gary Ramadei (member here) or David Sokolowski (advertises in the Driveline).

Thanks for the leads, I will be talking to these people today. The ebay unit I have seen Richard, thanks. Looking for something a little closer to May 63 like the one I have now. But will consider it if this search fails, but I think I "may have found one" in British Columbia that might work, I will be talking to the fellow this afternoon.

California is a good place to get one and, hopefully, the car it came out of lived its whole life there. If so, it will be free of pitting-type corrosion. Any of these units that lived all or part of their life in areas of the US with salted roads will have serious (and ugly) corrosion pitting. If I needed one, I would not "touch one of those with a 10 foot pole". I'd rather have a non date or casting number correct unit than a corrosion-pitted piece.
