C2 Passenger Side Emblems>Remove and Replace

Have 66 Base Engine Non-A/C Coupe. Like to R & R the side emblems as the originals are
faded from age. How hard is it to remove/replace the passenger side emblem? I understand
the factory installed this emblem before the heater assembly was installed. Can this be done
with the heater assembly already installed? Any tips? Thanks in advance>Larry

I don't think you will have any issue removing the side flag emblem with a nut driver. Now if you have to remove and replace the Fuel Injection emblem on the passengers side you will have to remove the heater box.

Re: C2 Passenger Side Emblems>Remove and Replace

I'm having a little trouble understanding just when the side emblems were installed. The 1966 AIM indicates the following notation for side emblems:
CUT OFF THE REAR-MOST STUD (ON THE R.H. SIDE ONLY) AS CLOSE TO THE NUT AS POSSIBLE BEFORE HEATER INSTALLATION
      .

Wasn't the heater installed BEFORE the body drop? These early '66 assembly line images (9-28-65), seem to indicate that the side emblems were NOT installed prior to the body drop (but the rear emblem was). Was there a deviation from the AIM... or do I have my installation procedures wrong?

So if the side emblems were installed later, you might not have any trouble. Then again, your mileage may vary...

Thanks for the comments on the above. Would like to know what I'm up against before I take my 66 out of
the "Omni Bag" and install the battery. Does anybody have a C2(Small Block-Non A/C) with the battery out
of it to take a peek for me or know for sure on the above question? Thanks in advance>>Larry

Here is a picture of my 63 at the flag location. It is a little more difficult than I remembered but I was able to install it without removing the heater. I must have used a small box wrench.Fulie mounting 1.jpg

              Larry,
Changed my multiple times over the years, never removed heater. Last time needed to change back to original flags (color difference) for a 64 car.

Larry, I will tell you its difficult to change that emblem. Have a number of speed nuts as you will be dropping some. Heater blower motor definitely in the way. I had a terrible time installing the correct NOS '158's flags on my '63. Drivers side easy. Nice that they are discussing how the factory did it but that won't help you now.

as a mechanic. all i am going to say is the long way is the shortest way. take out the heater motor. change the emblem, put heater motor back in. and at this time of lock down what else do you have to do?

Re: C2 Passenger Side Emblems>Remove and Replace

I just wonder with all the variable answers we are getting is it possible the factory holes for this emblem
where inconsistent from car to car? Will tackle this problem in a week or two as it is now getting warmer
in Illinois and will get my car out of the bag. I let you know what I find on my car. Thanks for the comments.

Original '1963 speed nuts are hard to find. Jorjorian taught me about those years ago and send me some for my '63.

Any advice on how to change the passenger's side emblem on a '65 with a/c? Possibly remove the inner splash shield and work from the bottom?

                          Thanks,

FWIW: Finally got the car out of storage. Found that the heater is definitely in the way. Can not even see the back nut from the top. Looking from the bottom through the side gills it looks like that the back stud was indeed cut off at the factory since we are dealing with original emblems. So am I to assume that the emblem from the factory was attached by one speed nut only??
If that is the case I will attach the new one the same way. My Corvette was made the 2nd week in Sept. of 65 so it is a super early assembly date;perhaps things changed later in the model year. Need comments on this please!! Larry and thanks much
P.S. There was no speed nut on the stud that was cut off; as it was cut off flush with the body. BTW>Body is a A.O.Smith.

And here is another one, early 63, just to add to the confusion.
