    Muncie Serial Number Question

I have a Muncie M21 that has a casting number of 3855010 and stamped build number of P1202. There is another stamped number of 6A125312 on the main case which is the serial number? This is currently in a 1967 corvette. Can anyone tell me what the serial number means? The car was built in November 1, 1966.
    Thanks for any help.

If I had to guess, I would say it's a portion of the VIN number of the passenger car the transmission was originally installed in.

Most likely a 66 Chevelle out of the Atlanta plant.

I'll take a shot at decoding your transmission stamps. The Muncie date code, P1202, was pre-'67 since it doesn't have a year designator. For example, a '67 date code would be something like P7C23, which would indicate March 23, 1967.

The serial number you are referring to is a partial VIN. The "6" indicates a 1966 model year car. If memory serves me, the "A" was Lakewood Assembly (Atlanta, Georgia). I believe they made A and B body Bluick, Chevrolet, Olds and Pontiacs in that time frame. Your transmission was the 25,312th produced in 1966.

I think the 1 after the A means Chevrolet, so it probably came out of a Chevelle.

Here is a good link for Muncie decoding.
