My 63 SWC needs another battery. The restoration battery in it now has bit the dust but it is my fault. I have a bad habit of turning the ignition switch all the way to the left when I shut the car down. As you know, that puts the switch in the accessory mode which will kill the battery if not caught on time. I have brought the battery back to life a few times but not this time. So my question is where to buy a new AGM battery that looks like the one that Restoration Battery use to make. I also know that a company called Jim's Battery MFG has taken over where Restoration Battery left off. According to their website, the price is $280 plus shipping and tax whereas Battery Central Mall has it listed for $349 shipping included. Neither site mentions real tar, cell connectors, or date coding. Are these the same battery? Are people getting their batteries in a reasonable amount of time because I know that was an issue a while back.

Have you considered rebuilding your dead repro battery? I did so for my 1960 Vette battery. -

Consider installing and using a battery shut off switch. Energized electrical systems are a leading cause of fires with parked cars. That risk is probably higher with the accessory circuit turned on. A switch will also help save your battery.Mark Edmondson

I do have a battery cut off switch but sometimes I forget or too lazy to use it. I will do better in the future. When I remove the dead battery I am planning to cut the bottom out and see what battery is installed inside. I that time I will determine if rebuilding it is a good idea. My original question was whether these two companies sell the same exact battery.Comment

Wasn't there a Restorer article where someone showed how they took their dead OEM style battery, gutted the case and then soldered a connection from the fake terminals on the cover to the real terminals under the gutted case? Or am I totally off base here?Comment

When mine was replaced, it turned out to be an Odyssey battery you can buy on Amazon.

I visited Jim's battery 10 days ago to pick up my 79s for my 69 L46 I am working on. It's about an hour drive from my house. Not a big operation. It was a bit of a mess. Ordered it two months ago. Called a week before picking it up to check on status. Oops. They will have it by Friday. Got there on Friday and they had forgot I was coming (from 4 days ago) and the battery wasn't ready. Jim said to give him 30 minutes and he would have it ready. It was - sort of. I got it home, took it out of the box (second mistake - should have looked at it there) and discovered it was the wrong model. I called - they were very apologetic. Jim met me half way last week to give me the correct one. I looked at it there, before returning home. The case actually has 89s molded on it, with a 79s label on top. He says no one makes the 79s anymore - something about bad cases leaking and different size terminals. I knew that before picking it up.
Seems like a nice, hard working guy that means well. Gave me a small discount for the problems. Could use some organization/admin help though.Comment

Gentlemen,
Batteries, belts, hoses, tires,etc are wear items and should be addressed by the NCRS as having to be replaced and not being perfect every time. Example the radiators are nowhere near being perfect and are given the pass every time they are judged. The president, Ingham and Judging Chairman, Brigham should address these items and all the chatter would be eliminated.
