Am installing a new Dash Harness, Fuse Block to everything in Dash & Gauges, need to know is the harness runs above or below the Steering Column as Have the Column out & ready to install and have the new harness and ready to install as well. Do not want to have to rework it so if someone has a picture of the harness behind the Speedometer/Tachometer Cluster with it removed would be greatly appreciated

Re: C3 1968 Corvette Dash Wiring
There is a clip on the back lower left corner of the speedo and the lower right corner of the tach. The harness lays in the clip and gets pushed back against the cast iron steering column supportand the natural steel plate that bolts to the casting. Steering column goes in last and kind of pushed the harness up in the center. No pictures, but looked at a 69 today for another person with the same question. AIM UPC12, sheet B8 shows it pretty well.

Re: C3 1968 Corvette Dash Wiring
David - Not sure if this will help but here is the routing prior to hanging the dash and plugging in the dash bulbs and connections. Make sure you test all of your bulbs prior to plugging them into the dash. 1968s have very fragile metal clips on the bulb plugs that can pull out of the plastic and cause you problems. If possible only plug them in one time. It helps using a box or milk crate to hold the dash up so that you can arrange the wiring and vacuum hoses closer to the firewall instead of the dash laying on the floor. The wiring is barely long enough in some places. This is a restoration I did a long time ago. Pay no attention to the added silver foil floor insulation....

Re: C3 1968 Corvette Dash Wiring
Evening Brad
Thanks for your quick response and pictures as they do answer the question I had as now know the harness must be routed above the steering column.
Also I modified the new harness as added Molex Connectors to the parts of the harness that plugs into the Speedometer Cluster, Tachometer Cluster and Center Console Gauge Cluster. With the connectors I can install all the bulbs before hand, test them and then plug into the mating connector on the Main Harness, just makes it a little easier, besides used the Female Connector on the Main Harness & the Make connector on the Cluster Harness.
Will take some pictures and email to you is you would like to see it
Thanks again

Re: C3 1968 Corvette Dash Wiring
I recall John Hinckley talking about the "feature" that they heated the wiring harness under heat lamps to softer the plastic on the wires to make the harness more flexible and easier to install. I would encourage you to be cautious if attempting this. It is one thing to do this to 125 or 150 harnesses a day and quite another to do this to one harness in your garage. On the other hand if you had a nice hot sunny day and laid the harness in the mid-day sun ....Terry- Top

Re: C3 1968 Corvette Dash Wiring
Hi Brad,
Do you happens to remember the routing of the speedo cable with regard to the pedals, column supports, and dash bracing? Appears it needs to go in front of the pedals and perhaps around the left side of the column support. Don't think there's room to run it inside the column support but that's where it appears to "want" to go. I know it was connected when I removed the column and I don't recall having to to maneuver around it so I think it runs above the coulmn but gain, not sure.
Thanks,
