    Engine Start Procedure Label 327568

I need to find (replace) my engine start procedure glue-on label on the driver side Visor for my 1973 Corvette. Are there any available and will it pass NCRS judging standards?

    George------

Well, I cannot find that it was ever available in SERVICE. So, that let's out NOS. Unless someone reproduces it I think you're out-of-luck.

One slight possibility is this: I believe this label was used on other 1973 model year GM cars. So, it might be possible to find a decent one in a wrecking yard. Of course, removing it and successfully transferring it will be a very difficult task. However, if you could find a decent one you might be able to use a color laser copier to make your own reproduction on similar label stock.

      Hi George,
You can find them at Impala Bob's website. Listed under 72-73 Sunvisor Starting Instructions Label. They are made with the cloth material correct for 72-73. I've purchased a couple of them. Will they pass Judging? Mine did at a Chapter meet. Are they exact? Of course not but pretty close. Original corners are square vs rounded on the repro. Fonts little smaller, especially the date and part numbers. These labels were usually removed by the owners on the way home from the dealership, because of their unsightliness. Especially on a convertible. I see that the Dr. sells them too! Just make sure you get the clothlike material for '73. The labels were made from paper starting in 74.
I have an Original label removed early on from a 73 by the original owner. (Top photo) Repro bottom photo. Hey, just square up the corners and tea stain it.....

I looked closely at the various photos of then on eBay and bought one there for my 72.
They are a lot closer with regard to the material than they were 10 years ago.

Perfect? No, but they will get you the points for minimal investment.

I appreciate the reply's and information. There is a visor (black) for a 72-73 that has the starting procedures label (described as original?) for sale on Ebay for 99.98 + 15 for shipping. Just relisted. Was thinking about buying it. But, like the idea of going with a replacement label. My car has been a "sink hole" over the past several years. Trying to keep everything original as best I can.

953 Yellow Metallic, 404 Interior trim black leather (car has never been painted) 71,505 miles
Mechanically redone suspension, breaks, exhaust system (was original)) by D&M Corvettes Downers Grove IL in 2015
Engine completely rebuild by Jasper Performance in Indiana in 2015

I'm the second owner and purchased the car in Gainesville, FL 02/05/1980 from the original buyer.
Dealer: E.F.Connel Chevrolet, Jacksonville, FL. The Corvette was delivered to the buyer 09-18-1973 and I still have all of the delivery documents including dealership vehicle inspection procedures dated 8-2-73 signed by Gene. Body trim build L06, July 6, 1973. That was the last month of production for the 73's. Smog air system pump and EGR valve still on the engine. The smog pump "diverter value" however must be bad since the engine backfires on hard acceleration between shifts. Looking to find an original replacement, 7029190 JH.

          Thanks again everyone.

Bill Hodel may be able to rebuild your diverter valve. This is a very difficult-to-find and very expensive NOS valve.

              George,
I wouldn't pay all that money just to get the original Label. Just go with the reproduction, and keep your original visor. Sunvisors are only 4 points originality and 4 points condition 8 points total. That being said you may lose 1 point for the missing label. Not worth all that money. As Patrick stated above the repro will more than likely get you through Judging without a deduction.

Thanks for the information and advise. 73 is not a 100% survivor, but, is a numbers matching car in great shape. Its the little things that kill you. As a member of the Florida NCRS Chapter, I will have it judged, timing, tbd.
