Mystery Adjusting Bolt - either a C2 or C3 part

I came across this mystery bolt in the mess of engine part Ziplocks for my '72 -- but I don't think it's from the engine compartment. If it doesn't belong to my '72, perhaps it's from a late C2. It's got a fine thread, about 1.75" long, with a straight slot on the threaded end, and a polished dome on the "head" end.

I hope you can help me find its rightful placement and thank you!

Look familiar? I have another one of these that I bought a long time ago but it's in one of several parts group 6 tote bins. But, they're all heavy and I didn't feel like getting into them. So, I just got this one.

Hey, that looks just like my mystery bolt!

I realized the other day that the one in my steering box has an Allen head and not the slotted head. I don't recall changing it out (or why) but I did rebuild the front suspension 30 years ago so maybe felt it needed something then. Maybe I changed the whole steering box... guess I'll have to grab the flashlight and poke around to see what I can see.

              Joe-
You must have enough NOS parts to build a complete C2 & C3- lol

If you see an allen bolt in the box cover those were used in the "new" boxes 15+ years ago and generally those boxes were not too good. Not saying yours is bad but look to see what size the hex nut is, should be 5/8" for the lash screw, look at the large lock ring to see if it's stamp steel or solid, should be stamped or formed I guess but not solid, and if you can see if the Saginaw logo Road S is cast in the back of the box. Hopefully the only change was the lash screw at some point but if you have slop on center and have to compensate for steering feel you might want to look closer at that box.

Gary, it looks like I retained the Saginaw gear box as it has all of the characteristics you mentioned. Not sure why I would have changed the lash screw to an Allen head (and kept the old one!). I'll have to dig out all of my old receipts to see what I may have done here and perhaps that will trigger the "why" memory. I do remember changing out all the bushings to polyurethane...
