    Shock Rebuilding

Can the original standard shocks on a 72 Corvette be rebuilt to the original specifications? I have the original shocks on my car, which are not leaking, pass the bounce test and dont dip or lean in turns. Should I consider having the rebuilt and who does this service. I guess I have too much time on my hands and the mind is working over time.

    Ed,

Send Dan Patch an email from the Members List.

Dan does a great job on rebuilding shocks.

Ed Why rebuild them when there not leaking and from what you say seem to be functioning ok. After almost 50 years I am sure they have degraded some but why not just remove them and store them. And install a new ones. The new technology is not the same. Should not make a big difference in ride quality. Handling will be better.

I am not sure I want to have them rebuilt as yet. I dont drive the 72 as spirited as I use to, so absolute performance is not required. If they start to leak or show a loss of dampening, I will have them rebuilt . I hope there is no damage done by driving them to that point. I dont want to put them away and install new ones, as you never know when I will have the desire to have it judged again. Its not that easy at my age to keep changing them and besides they belong on the car. Gary thanks for Dan's endorsement and will contact him when they need to be rebuilt. It amazing these lasted 48 years without leaks. I remember in the 60's, shocks never lasted more than a couple of years and told to change them even if they did not leak. A good sales pitch by the industry.
