Master Cylinder Paint - 64 Corvette

This question is for Joe Lucia (....or others that would like to comment). Joe, way back in 2002 you gave an answer regarding what type of paint to use on a C2 MC.

You said, "I recommend VHT Brake Rotor and Caliper Satin Black, VHT # SP-739. This product is about the right color and sheen and is chemically resistant to glycol brake fluids."

Here is the link to that original post: https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...aster-Cylinder

I need to paint my MC - I checked and found that VHT SP-739 is still available on the market. My question to you is, would you still recommend it for an MC or is there another product that would pass judging, with respect to the degree of the sheen and is better than VHT's product? I like the idea of using SP-739 because it is allegedly resistant to glycol based fluids.

    Thanks -
    Ed

    My recommendation remains the same.

      Ed,

The description of the VHT paint says "VHT caliper paint only attains its unique qualities after correct curing. Curing occurs with normal brake operating temperatures or parts can be heated to 200 degrees Fahrenheit." Because of those instructions I think you'll want to do an oven cure, with the prior removal of the MC piston with its non-metallic O-ring seals.

Yes, an old toaster oven works well for paint curing jobs such as this. I use one I retired from "kitchen duty". For pieces too large for the toaster oven I use the gas grill.
