Re: Looking for vendor with the most accurate carpet for '67
My recent experience looking for green carpet for a 67 convertible is that all the usual sources sold the same Auto Custom Carpet for a variety of prices. The weave is not right, the heel pad is not right, the color is not right. Rock Auto gives the best deal. After I quit banging my head on the wall, I just bought it and moved on. Even though the color was not even close, it was attractive in the car.- Top

Carpet available today can't be summed up any better than Pat just did. To me carpet in my 67 was such a prominent thing but had the most disappointing ending. I spent hours looking, reading the TDB, getting samples and talking to people at ACC and Knoch....several times. I even took my carpet to a professional carpet dyer. He made it better, but still was not the true factory color (bright blue). So, take the point loss and move on to something worth more points...like making sure your lighter works.Avatar--My first ever vette, owned 3X since 1977, restored 1993-2024. Re: Looking for vendor with the most accurate carpet for '67
Thanks for the experienced based comments guys. I went into this doubting that I would find a carpet manufacturer that closely adhered to the original stuff. Most of it today is better than what the original was and I know this because the rear portion of my coupe is original and albeit looking a little thin, still in pretty good shape. My kick panels I believe are also original, but the passenger seat area has been replaced and you can clearly see the difference as much in color as loop pattern. I don't know what vendor was used for these replacements, but I am sure it was done back in the late 80's or early 90's. I don't want to mess with the original carpet, but desperately need to replace the seat area carpet. The original carpets are truly black, not black with a blue cast in the sun like the replacements that are there now.Garry Barnes #18531

You are lucky your carpets are black. You will get a better color match by far than Gary or me. My friend just did his black interior with Auto Custom Carpet from Rock Auto and I did not notice any blue cast in them.- Top
