Sorry, but I don't really have an answer. I do not believe it is real wood. Like Leonard said, it is probably a veneer. In a prior response I called it simulated, but that was not correct. I do have an NOS piece for a 1970-1971 and I can look at it next time I pull out my parts.

Ron, veneer is real wood--just very very thin. If you run a fingernail over an original, the grain can be felt. I have used that test in judging for years.

The original 1970-71 was real wood veneer, both PRODUCTION and SERVICE. I THINK the 1972 version was also real wood veneer but I am not really sure. As far as the 73-76 version (also SERVICE for 1972 after January, 1973), what it was I do not know. I kind of suspect it was not real wood veneer. That would also explain the part number change between 1972 and 73-76.

What is the difference; read the prior posts. Wood veneer is real wood made from a real tree, which was used in the C3 deluxe interiors inserts. Simulated wood can be tile, laminate, contact paper or the after market reproduction "woodgrain imported" insert in my picture.

Thank you for setting me straight. Maybe I should judge interiors more than I do. Like I replied, I do have an NOS from the very early seventies still packaged between 2 flat pieces of cardboard. I have never opened it.

Remember, the stuff on your countertops is called laminate.

Not at my house since the 1970s or 1980s, and probably not in most of our houses anymore. Without ever seeing your new house I doubt it has laminate countertops either. Perhaps laminate is making a comeback and overcoming granite, concrete and other solid materials, but I haven't noticed that. I will admit countertops, even in the garage, are not my long suite.

I hate to say it, since you are one of the "youngsters," but you ARE showing your age with that comment.

Hard surface in the kitchen.
Bathrooms and laundry room are still laminate, even in the new house. Better to put the money into the barn.
