C1 W/Fuel Injection Tach to Fuel Meter Cable

I am looking for a source for the cable for my 290 hp FI Tach to Fuel Meter.
The termination on the fuel meter end broke off. With the metal termination
the cable is 33 1/2 inches long. All of the big box vendors sell the cable assembly
which includes the housing, cable and the firewall seal. Everything but the cable
is new (several years ago) and is perfect on my unit.

I'm guessing that you mean the cable from the rear side of the distributor to the tachometer. The cable out the front of the distributor goes to the fuel meter pump and is only about 7" long. Much more common for the fuel meter high pressure pump cable to break versus the tachometer cable.

Ray - Yes the tach to the distributor, sorry for the confusion. My cable is 33 1/2 inches in length
with a solid metal termination on the distributor end. The solid termination is approx 2 inches
long and is crimped onto the flexible cable. about 3/4 's inch broke of from the cable.

I have not checked, but I would think one of the corvette vendors should offer a bare replacement cable only something close to the length you need. If not, purchase a complete assembly ( cable & housing ) and insert the cable from that unit into your housing. Again, the length needs to be close to your original length. This will require dis- attachment at the tachometer head to insert the cable. Additionally, if you have any original speedometer shops where you live, they might be able to make a replacement cable.

Thanks Ray, I have removed the cable from the car and have contacted the most popular parts vendors to no avail. They only sell the complete
housing and cable with the foam seal. I had hoped to find a suitable cable replacement rather than purchase the new unit. My cable
has less than 200 miles on it and is perfect. The termination at the distributor end is the unique item. I may have to pop for
          the $100 replacement.

Something caused that cable to break - a resistance such as a sharp bend (s ) in the cable routing or the nut that secures the cable housing to the distributor not adequately tightened allowing the cable to whip and thus break. Also, check that the tach head is not frozen and rotates freely.

David. My cable snapped at the Tach head and I likewise ran into trouble replacing just the cable itself. Our local speedo shop closed and I was unable to find anyone locally who could make a new cable for any less than what the big box vendors sell the entire assembly. So, I ended up buying the whole assembly and just utilized the cable. I greased the heck out of it and fed it up to the distributor from the tachometer.

David, when mine broke I bought a cable only at the local NAPA store that is generic in length, used the old cable for length, cut it with a cut off wheel & brazed a piece of sheet metal on that end to replicate the tab necessary to fit the slot in the distributor shaft. It cannot be disassembled after the brazing but that was 30 or so years ago and all is still well. Scott

                    Scott -

I have wondered if the old tip could be brazed back to the old cable. You have given me hope, however I currently cannot
get out to find a shop to look at it.
                    Thank you all,
