    I guess I won't know for sure until I remove the transmission and bell housing before judging. All dates on the trans are '63.

      The bellhousing casting number is usually very easy to see on the side of it without removing it from the car. That will "tell the tale". If it's a 3788421 then you have the correct bellhousing and, by extension, you have the correct transmission. If you have any other bellhousing, then you have an incorrect bellhousing and, by extension, an incorrect transmission.
