I know this has been a topic discussed many times ... but thought I would share my recent experience with the factory seat track install found in my early production 1966 Corvette (November 9, 1965) survivor with complete original interior (seats, carpets, dashpads, headliner, door panels ... everything). I decided to remove the seats to give a through vacuum for the carpets. It was tough to remove the four seat track-to-floor bolts as it was apparent they seemed never to have been touched before. Having removed the seats, I found some interesting things ... $2.46 dollars in 1970's coins, a vintage glass bottle Coke bottle top and the original glove box / spare tire lock key!
interesting to note is that the seats appear to be mounted directly on the carpets with appropriate carpet cuts/flaps to cover the forward mount bolts and for access to the rear U brackets that the rear of tracks slide into. There are no slices or cuts in this factory install other then front and back cuts. I know there have been many a discussion around "correct " carpet cutting procedures with many supporting carpets cut so the entire length of seat track is direct to the fiberglass floorpan ... well I guess with C2 assembly ... never say never?
