    '72 carpet plugs

Recently I removed the repro carpet from my car, it looked like a 5 year old did it, and I saw that the original carpet plugs were still in the firewall. The 5 year old didn't use them at all.

Is there an easy way to get them out and is it worthwhile to try to re-use them if successful?

I feel original parts are worth saving if possible. Trying to pull them out from inside the car will probably rip them in half. I pushed them out from the under side. Pushing them back in with your new carpet will be difficult.

What are carpet plugs in the firewall? Are they visible? Any pics available?

I guess I posed a $90 question! The TIM&JG is on my wish list...

No, Owen. It was my answer that was $90. Perhaps I should have been more subtle, but late last night after a long day of work (I am amazed to be considered essential) I was a little short of subtlety. If someone else doesn't help today (another long day of work) I will see if I can come up with that picture or something close to it on my days off.

              Owen,

Look over the "similar threads" below. You'll find several photos of installed carpet plugs.

Geez! Never thought to do a forum search for "carpet plugs"... I get it now: Fasteners that go through the carpet securing it to the firewall above the footwells. Thanks for the search reminder.

probably going to be in the garage today. I can take a couple of pics of the plugs if you're interested.

Will let you all know how I make out removing them.

Yes, thank you Terry. I was imagining circles of the carpeting stuck into holes in the firewall and couldn't come to any conclusion as to why such things would exist! Seemed a very weird thing and quite intriguing. The real answer is much less interesting.

When you're stuck on lockdown, scrolling through all the pics you've taken of your Corvette, and you have nothing better to do than to post a pic of a carpet plug. Enjoy. Hope everyone is safe and healthy.
