    gas tank

I am working on installing the gas tank on my 66 convertible. Does anyone have any pictures where the "cardboard" or as the AIM states "anti-squeak" go. The picture in the AIM is a little ambiguous.
    Thanks

The two antisqueak pads cover and slightly overlap each of the two crossmembers that support the fuel tank.

      Mel,
The anti-squeak pads consist of 4 pieces:
1ea across the forward edge of the tank on the cross support is 2 inches wide x ? length
1ea across the center section of the rear frame is 1.5 inches wide x ? length
2ea on each corner areas of the rear frame are 1.5 inches wide x ? length
All the pad material is .100" thick and has a "hole" pattern embossed into the material.
I neglected to record the lengths when I replaced my pads, but you should be able to get a close measurement from the photos.
I've included close up photos of the pads themselves.
The pads were glued to the tank on my car.........1967

The material is considerably thicker than roofing felt. I found a close product that was used on MOPAR fender splash shields.
Detroit Muscle Technologies sells a masticated rubber product that is close to the original pads.

          Mine are from a 64:
The two under the straps (top only) are 1 5/8 wide while 0.090 thick, showing some minor gluing to the tank without a "hole pattern" They did cover entire top and bent over some what at the tank bend, but did not go as far as the seam of tank.

My two frame pieces were also glued (quite a bit of glue) to tank. The rear frame support however were in three pieces, the gaps are at the connection area of the straps. Both small pieces hung outside of the tank bend.
Remember as production moved forward the installation process probably changed a little, so my example is for a March 1964 car, sample of "1"

These can be made from old roofing material (not felt paper). Think the roofing materiel used for a flat roof was what I used, it was thicker.

Yes, I was incorrect in my previous response. I was incorrectly referring to the 68-74 anti-squeak pad installation. The C2 configuration was a little different with the "3 piece" rear pads.
