    Door repair

I am working on the door on my 1962. The large inspection cover screws have stripped what were the threads in the fiberglass. I thought I would use J-Nuts to repair, but could not find a part number online. Perhaps someone would have a better idea than J-Nuts.

    Thank you,
    Ken

A bunch of methods to deal with this issue.
    I'll only mention one.
The Thread setter tool. Typically used for inserting threaded inserts into sheet-metal.
They can be used on fiberglass and work quite well. Sometime called Poly-nuts.

Typically work with machine screws so you would have to change out the screws.

You can find the jnuts on Ebay. The door panel screw holes will also strip out.. I beveled the hole out and the used fast setting JB weld and re-drilled the holes .

          Ken,

You can also use the small white plastic wall anchors, like for hanging small stuff on walls.

          JB Weld works best.

I (my Body person)used fibre glass cloth with resin. A small piece on each side of the stripped out holes. I re-drilled the holes when I put the car back together. Just be careful not to over tighten.

That's the way to do it IMO; I've seen everything from wall anchors to a flat metal plate you rivet to the door on one end and put a threaded hole in the other end over the damaged are -- for door repairs. You shouldn't be in the inspection area that often; a good OEM-style glass repair is what I do.

I used the slower drying J-B Weld. When I drilled for the screws, I was surprised how hard the material is. I was able to tighten the screws quite a bit.
Thanks to all for the great suggestions.

Ken, I have used the flat metal retainer pieces and bonded them to the inside of the door. They are sized by the size of screw and large enough that they woudnt pull through for a nice secure strong tight fit. Paul
