Remember Me - Login - Update

    Remember Me login update

Server upgrade included software upgrades to current software, which had security enhancements.

These changes severely impacted several functions as you all observed. Including the custom code Rob developed for the Remember Me login function. That kept members logged in for a long time, providing the member never logged out.

The Remember Me function, will NOT be the same as it was before the software changes, which is beyond NCRS's control.

As of 3/12/20 - Remember Me function will keep a member logged in for an unknown time period (to be determined), with periodic intermitten activity. With NO activity, a member will be logged out after 12 hours or so. Testing is ongoing to determine how long a member will be logged in with NO activity.

Thank you for your patience and assistance.

    Gary,

I assume this is why I now have to login daily from work., sometimes several times per day, even though I check the "remember me" box?

      Patrick,

If you close the browser, it'll probably log you out.

Am testing leaving a browser open with no activity:
      - 12 hrs = OK
      - 18 hrs = testing underway, will report back

This is on Firefox browser, I've been signed in since yesterday morning at 0612AM...and once I signed in I can get to all areas of the site without having to sign in again...haven't been signed out when I close the browser...was fine this morning when I went to the TDB, no sign in required and all areas of the site are available without having to sign in.

On Chrome, I have to sign in every time I open the browser, and if I sign in to the TDB, and go to the membership maintenance area or submit Driveline ad page, I have to sign in even though I'm signed into the TDB...cleared cookies, did all the other suggestions on Chrome, still the same...go figure...

            Gary,

I am now able to log in on my iPhone as I did before the upgrade. Logged out and back in using my saved password. Thanks for all your efforts!

Vinnie, are you using any extensions or settings that clear your cookies (or prevent them to be stored) suppressing session variables?

                  FWIW....

Firefox: Aperiodic (yes, that's a real word) log ins required. It doesn't seem to matter how long it's been since a screen refresh, but typically here it's an hour or more. It doesn't matter whether or not this computer stays continuously connected to the Internet or not. It doesn't seem to matter whether I've put the computer to sleep and reawakened it since the last refresh. Once in a great while and without any pattern I've detected, a screen refresh will NOT require me to log in.

Opera: Screen refresh generates a need to log in. No pattern that I've yet detected but I don't use opera as often as I use Firefox so there could be a pattern.

The office has IE, and it can be only a few hours and I have to login again.

Home is Firefox most of the time, and just now had to login again.

The old perma-login sure was nice...

Yes, that's my experience using Firefox. As long as I keep Firefox open, I do not have to login each time I access the DB. However, if I close Firefox at any time, I need to log back in to access the DB. As you have mentioned, checking the "remember me" box does nothing.Fortunately, my computer remembers my login so all I have to do is a few clicks to login.

                          Gary,

Vinnie's experience is what I reported earlier and is still happening.

I read 4 forums besides NCRS and this is the only one that I can't stay logged in to.

Dave and others with only First Name and Last Initial when you make a post.

We need to know step-by-step what you have done and type of device you're using to get the First Name and Last Initial to help identify what's causing this.

                              Example:
                              1) how did you access the Discussion Board
                              a) what browser are you using; Chrome, FireFox, Edge or ????
                              b) Google or Bookmarked link or ????
                              c) what was the link in the browser top bar ????
                              d) are you using PC, iPhone, iPad, Android or ????

                              The more information the better
