Re: 66 Protect-O-Plate paint code; Mossport Green
I knew what the trim tag code was, but in looking at the POP code book, it does not have Mossport Green. As a matter of fact it has only Chevy codes, but does not break out Corvette as it does in all other catagories. My POP does not show a code at all.
You comment of it being the same as the trim code is that from a POP you have?
Thanks,
Mike- Top

Are you referring to the NCRS POP code book? the POP will show the same code for interior and exterior codes as your trim tag. Fisher built cars used alpha codes for exterior color codes in 66. But Corvettes used a three digit number code.- Top

Getting my info from: PAH Publishing Decoding Guide, General Motors Protect-O-Plate, 1965-1972 Chevrolet Models. To my knowledge NCRS within the TIM&JG only breaks down Trim tag and VIN tag. I am referring to the POP affixed to the original Owners Protection Plan book that was originally in the glove box issued to the original owner.- Top

I would suggest buying this book
National Corvette Restorers Society! NCRS Authentication Library Vol 2 1965-67 Protect-O-Plates - The National Corvette Restorers Society is extremely proud to present the latest research in our continuing effort to make advanced insight available to the Corvette Community. Significant research for this book began back in 2002, in parallel with our first NCRS Authentication Library volume based on 1963 through 1967 Trim- Top

Re: 66 Protect-O-Plate paint code; Mossport Green
Hi Mike
the Authentication Library V2 PoP book describes the 1966 Corvette PoP as having an Alpha-Numeric grid. If your PoP is done per the guide book, the Trim code appears in the top row, first three spaces, (A1,2,3) then space, then the Paint code in A5,6,7. Mosport is 982.
The 66 PoP changed from how 65 was made in that the 65 PoP put the Trim code in A1,2,3 then space, then a one letter code for Paint.
On my 65 PoP for instance, 420 is followed by space, then G. My car is Saddle Vinyl (420) and Glen Green (G)
What is in the top 7 spaces (top left corner) of your PoP?- Top

Great info Dan, now what I thought was a blank, because I was looking for alpha only per the book I have, starts to make sense. I ordered the POP book, can not wait to digest it's info. Thanks, Mike- Top

Yes, the Canadians know about its origin:" The name "Mosport" is a portmanteau of Motor Sport, came from the enterprise formed to build the track; it is pronounced as the two words actually sound, "Mo-Sport" (but is often incorrectly pronounced "Moss-Port")."

Here's an original 1966 Corvette Mosport POP... STD (Standard Interior) with Paint Code 982 (Mosport).
I've blurred the original owner info... and also altered the last four of the VIN.
