C2 1966 Interior Door Panel, Black Roadster

I would like to purchase a C2 1966, deluxe, black interior door panel, drivers side, hand crank windows. How would the Al Knoch panel compare to a Corvette America panel in quality and originality? I am not familiar with Corvette America products.

I installed new Al Knoch door panels in a 66 coupe I restored. I was not happy with the fit along the top edge in the area of the vent window post. In my opinion there was to much gap in this area. Not even close to the fit of an original.

A friend used Corvette America door panels and his fit in the same area was much better.

    But just my experience!

I think I read a thread where you could take your door panel apart and send the original upper metal structure of the panel to Al Knoch and they would build you a new door panel with it.

Thanks for reply. Was everything else on the Corvette America door panel comparable to the Al Knoch panel?

I haven't seen the Corvette America set in a while, but as far as I recall, the fit and finish otherwise was about the same as Al Knoch.

If you are planning any judging, I lost 7 points on the door panels at a Regional meet for Fit and Grain being to heavy.

All I can say is that on the 65 we restored two years back... we removed the AK panels and installed the CA panels which fit like a glove. CA re-tooled the upper support as well as the felts and they fit.

Go to this link and you can view pictures of the final product.
