Award Ribbon Question

After having this ribbon for a number of years, I just noticed the small aluminum tab that pivots out from the back.

Does that tab have a specific intended use? I can see where the tab can be easily bent to allow the ribbon to hang from most anything. Is it as simple as that?

Normally the tab has a hole in it and can be used to hang in on the wall. Looks like you got one that doesn't have that. Sorry for that.

As a side note, my top flight blue ribbons have turned a maroon color similar to the color of yours. Can they be restored? LOL
