    63 340HP idler pulley

GM part number for the idler pulley is 3829191
    Was 3829192 ever used on a 63?
I am trying to find a 3829191 but want to make sure I am not buying the wrong one? My car engine build date is May 07 1963.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have not been a member for awhile and forgot about the archive, I had searched the forum before asking but not the archive. Archive states the Pulley itself and not the pulley +bracket is 3829192 so theoretically I assume, if you have a bracket/pulley and their is a GM number 3829192 on the pulley its still correct because the assembly was 3829191 at least thats how I read it??????

The idler pulley ASSEMBLY was GM #3829191. The assembly consists of the bracket, shaft/bearing, and pulley. The idler pulley component of that assembly was also available separately under GM #3829192. Both are long-since discontinued.

That is interesting, and I will tell you why I have been confused for sometime on this issue, lI have been looking for a 9191 for about 5 months now, its literally the last piece of a total numbers matching NOS or Used original part restoration. I googled the 3829191 number and found a clone manufacturer. But noted he also had a complete assembly he is marketing under 3829192 which confused the hell out of me.
So he is saying this is Late 63 through 65
LATE 1963-1965 CORVETTE IDLER PULLEY ASSEMBLY - BLACK WITH BRACKET
Corvette Idler Pulley Assembly With Special High Performance L63 65 / 1963-1965 / ( #17010 ) LATE 1963-1965 CORVETTE IDLER PULLEY ASSEMBLY - BLACK WITH BRACKET. 3 3/4" O.D. FOR 327 WITH 340-375 HORSEPOWER SPECIAL HIGH PERFORMANCE, FUEL INJECTION EXCEPT AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) AND POWER STEERING. GM PART NUMBER: 3829191.

and this one is Early 63
EARLY 1963 CORVETTE IDLER PULLEY ASSEMBLY - WITH ZINC PULLEY AND BRACKET.
Corvette Idler Pulley Assembly With Special High Performance 63e / 1963-1963 / ( #17010A ) EARLY 1963 CORVETTE IDLER PULLEY ASSEMBLY - WITH ZINC PULLEY AND BRACKET. 3 3/4" O.D. 327 WITH 340-375 HORSEPOWER SPECIAL HIGH PERFORMANCE, FUEL INJECTION EXCEPT AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) & POWER STEERING. GM PART NUMBER: 3829192.

        Actually I am still confused

          Dennis-
I suggest buying a good used original if you want the real deal, rather than something newly made from one of the vendors.
The vendors write a lot of descriptions that are not accurate. I have an original in the parts box, and I don't recall there being a part no. on it. Maybe I'm wrong. Joe, do any of yours (none are for sale) have a part no.?

I understand now. So I'm learning something. That vendor says the early 63 assembly has a zinc pulley and the late 63- 65 assembly has the steel pulley. Otherwise they are the same. Joe, or someone else, is the zinc pulley correct for early 63?

I am going to buy the real deal, hence why I have been looking for 5 months. I started questioning what I was supposed to buy when I googled and came up with this lame descriptor that has 2 available Idlers. So just wanted to be sure my search for a 9191 was the correct idler

There is no part number on the bracket or the pulley that I have ever noted. Of course, I've not seen every one ever made.

There is no predecessor or successor part number to the 3829191 that I can find. There could well have been a difference in the pulley finish without a change of part number.

The vendor source linked is incorrect regarding the 3829192 being the "late" 1963 pulley assembly. 3829192 is the part number for the pulley only and is applicable to all 1963-65 with idler pulley. 3829192 is NOT the part number for the pulley assembly as shown in the link whether it be an early 1963, mid-1963, or late 1963.

Have you ever seen this marking before...it looks like PR or something like that on a 9191?

I can't help on that one. Mine has a different maker logo mark, ITM I think. Mine has a black painted pulley with New Departure bearing.

I have been looking for one with this end marking but it would appear 99% are clones and the 1% that are not, are asking Ebay prices for them.

I'd hazard a guess that is the logo for Paragon Reproductions.

Yes there is ITM on the arm, a stamp with number on the shaft and nothing on the actual wheel, well, thats what I am looking for, anyway, but so far no luck

                              Another picture of an original;
Dec 62 car and the pulley was painted on plated.

I didn't have a picture of the back side. It will be removed soon for a water pump rebuild.
If you would like any other pictures let me know.
