69 Storage Compartment Finish - Underbody

I've found many posts regarding various aspects of the interior storage compartment and/or trays, but don't see anything regarding the underbody finish of the compartment(s). Many years ago (when young and foolish) I sprayed on undercoating in a futile attempt at reducing noise and heat. Now I'm trying to return the car to a more original appearance. I've removed all of the undercoating. This effort has revealed a dark grey (almost black) finish in some areas and a "reddish" appearance in other areas. The reddish areas have some "blotches" or streaks of grey. Both areas are somewhat like a semi-gloss finish.

The attached photo will give you an idea of what I have at this point. The grey areas are actually darker than the photo conveys. I realize the process I used to remove the undercoating may have changed the underlying finish.

Can someone tell me what the finish should be? If possible, please suggest a product brand, color and finish.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Michael,

The under body of the rear compartments is natural fiberglass. It is referred to black glass which is actually dark gray. I believe the red color that you are seeing is the factory primer. It is not uncommon to see fiberglass strands as the factory used less gelcoat in those areas since they were not going to be painted body color. In some cases you may see some black paint from the overspray when the wheel wells were blacked out. I think what you are seeing is normal. - Ron

Ron, thanks for the reply. Maybe you can answer this related question which I intended to ask in the first post: Are the underside parts of the rivets painted that hold the battery and jack hardware?

        Not intentionally.

They may receive some overspray on occasion but they should be bare aluminum.

Rivets are natural and brackets depending which ones are painted black or bare metal.
