    68 427 gasket judging question

I have never had my car judged, but thinking about it this year. When we restored the engine 5 years ago we used modern intake and valve cover gaskets. Rubber for the VC and the intake is blue in color (visible with air cleaner off). None of them leak now. Is it worth the leak risks to change these to cork VC and proper intake gasket?

    thanks

you have to be the judge of that. If you look down to bottom of this page, you see three columns of links. In the far right column middle, you see Judging Score Sheets. You can find the 68-72 Score sheets, Mechanical in particular, and on the first page of those you see sections for the Valve Covers, and for Intake Manifold. Here is a link for you. https://www.ncrs.org/njc/68-72%20Sco...2%20Mchncl.pdf
Knowing that the judges will evaluate each item that is covered on each line using CDCIF, you can guesstimate how many points might be deducted for non-typical color and material of the gaskets in question. Then, you can decide if the possible point loss is worth the trouble and expense of changing out your gaskets. Good luck

Probably a point for the valve cover gasket and a point for the intake gasket. The trouble is finding the correct ones.

The correct valve cover gaskets will leak, if not from the get-go then soon after.

You can get reproductions from places such as Paragon. However, you then have to determine if it's worth it to swap them out for that 1 point. If it's your first judging with the car, I would say no.
