    "62" glass fuel bowl

Can any one here explain to me why the gas in the glass fuel bowl siphons back into the fuel line after cutting off the engine. Does't the fuel pump have a check valve in it to prevent this from happening? As this condition makes restarts very hard.

That siphoning should have zero effect on restarts shortly after shutting off an engine. Fuel remains in the carburetor and it is that fuel on which the engine runs until the pump re-fills the filter.

Cannot explain it, but that is not typical behavior of 300/340 hp '62.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I need to look into this problem a little more since it does not seem to be a common problem. Thanks again for your comments.

Yes - a siphon back issue should not affect initial start up....if you disconnected the fuel line at the carb inlet - the vehicle will still start and run for several seconds...

The fuel pump doesn't have a check valve per se. It uses two popitt valves to "pump and suck" the fuel....they aren't much....metal encased rubber flaps about like a rubber kitchen drain stopper but smaller.
