The current '56 - '57 Judging Guide says the clutch fork pivot ball enters a #3733365 bellhousing casting from the rear (transmission) side. The June, 1957 bellhousing in the photos I've attached has a pivot ball that is mounted from the front. Is the Judging manual wrong, or is this particular casting feature uncommon?

Re: Odd '57 bellhousing?
That's a bell housing for a '57 2bbl 265 passenger car application, Jerry.
In '57 (and maybe '56, too, not sure) all base V8/manual transmission passenger cars used that bell housing. All optional PowerPak V8s used the bell housing (same casting) with the stud screwed in from the transmission side.- Top

Jerry,
Photo of screw in clutch stud.
You're not by yourself. Plenty of us have done the same thing.
