Heater Blower Motor Low/Med Speed Inop. - 1965

So I completed the replacement of the interior main/dash wiring harness in my '65 convertible this afternoon and everything works except the low and medium speeds on the heater blower motor, the high speed works. So what might be the cause, bad fan switch or the blower motor resistor on the forward side of the interior heater box?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

I vote for the blower motor resistor

Jim, take look at the connectors at fan switch and resistor. wiggle connectors first with key on, then unhook and re-hook, make sure non of the male spades did not get bent or female connectors were not pushed out of connector

        Ed,

Going to try that this afternoon.

This is what I would check also. The difference between the high setting and the low/medium settings is that the resistor is in the circuit at reduced fan speeds but not at high speed.

I recently bought a NOM 65 396 Roadster and as is typical for cars I buy, as soon as it was in my garage, I started making 'the list'. The list was for all those nagging things, big and small, that had not yet been addressed or had been overlooked. Seeing the rubber connector hose between the frame fuel pipe and the fuel pump with no clamps at either end was one of the many surprises awaiting me. Tried the heater blower motor and two things were apparent, it only ran on one speed...High, and it sounded like the squirrel was still in the cage. Replaced the motor, cheap fix and then checked the resistor. For once, I got lucky, and found the 3-wire connector was just hanging free and not connected. Plugged it back in and presto, all three speeds again. The resistor is on the backside of the heater plenum and if you do need to replace it, you'll be working 'by feel' but it's still doable. Good luck.
