Is My 69's PS Control Valve the Original

    Hi everyone,

I'm not sure these valves were dated but mine has '854 68' stamped on outboard end front side. Not sure about the 854, which doesn't line up to be a valid month day but the 68 is clear. It also has the following castings: S885459 with 22 below on inboard front side and 26 outboard back side.

This has become more relevant since the rebuilt one I just put on is leaking from the top seal just sitting there, engine not running, no pressure. I purchased it from a reputable vendor. If I have my original I will look into having it rebuilt but beyond that I'm just going to buy a new one and not take a chance on another rebuild. Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations on getting a new valve?

    Thanks,

    Jack

How does 354 68 fit to the build date of your car? December 19, 1968.

Said reputable vendor should exchange it for a non leaker.

I went with a new one and still had to send one back as it leaked under the adjuster dust cap. Replace the hoses too. But pay attention to the original location of each hose...pictures are your friend.

If you need to adjust this animal search my name here. I did the 68s entire front end 2 years ago.
There are youtubes showing how to balance it. Check it first before attempting any adjustments.

Thanks Terry. A closer look says you are correct. Car's build date is second week of Jan '69 so that date does line up.

Thanks David, I will check your videos out. Yes, I agree. Will be contacting vendor Monday. I replaced everything, rebuilt pump, new hoses, etc.

Keep in mind that if the bore of the valve is not 100% PERFECT, you will have a leak after rebuild. Also, if the bore is honed to correct imperfections you will also likely have a leak after rebuild.
