    T3 Headlight Vendor Recommendation

I'm looking to purchase a set of T3 headlights for my 63 and would like to know your opinion on the best vendor to purchase from and what were the prices? Lectric Limited has a set for $150.00.

    Thanks
    Jerry

I may be wrong but I think Lectric Limited is the only supplier of T3's. I do not recall what their current T3 looks like but for awhile the DOT id was not on the front of the bulb but on the side. On the side is better for judging as there is no standard deduction of 3 points.

I think they did an ink DOT stamp on the side for awhile, no deduct for that.

Any current reproduction headlights have a DOT in the lamp somewhere , best for judging is to find some Originals use bulbs hard to find

The new reproduction bulbs have a DOT stamp on the back side and it is not visible when the bulb is installed. I have tried old original bulbs but there are two issues with them, first they can blow out at any time and you might fail the operations part of the judging and second the yellow light they put out makes driving a little dangerous. I'll go with the reproduction bulbs.

FWIW, fellow member Jeff Salz has original (and sometimes NOS) T3 bulbs. If you're looking for original bulbs, he should have them. Jeff advertises in Driveline magazine.

I ,am pretty sure the judges find a way to see the DOT stamp on bulb some how .

                    Rob,

What do you mean by "new" reproduction bulbs? And what do you mean by the "back side"? The inside of the front glass?

When I spoke with Letric Limited about the DOT marking on their repro T3s in 2019, they said the DOT was visible from the front, as it has been for some years now.

I have gone through 2 sets of Lectric Limited repro T-3 bulbs in a very short period of time. If you actually drive your car they don't last. I gave up.

Putting high temp RTV around the base of the electrodes on the back of the lights, original or repro, is a good idea.....once they suck a molecule of air in; they're done....

                          Gary:

A few years back I bought reproduction T3's from Zip. The DOT was ink marked on the rear of the bulb neat the electrical connectors. I was amazed at this, since before all the reproduction T3 bulbs I have seen were marked DOT in tiny letters in the front glass.

Don't know who did the bulbs for Zip........but supposedly Sylvania was shutting down the reproduction T3 bulb manufacturing and calling it quits. Maybe Zip was able to do a special run before the equipment shutdown.

Now I hear the reproduction T3 bulbs are available again........and I don't know why or how or who?? Maybe someone can help me understand this.

Summary, If you are driving your car and not having it judged, install anything that fits with illumination for 2020. If you having in judged, find an original set of T3's, high temp STV the ends and install them for judging.

                            Safety first.

I few years ago I was late getting home with my 67 and it was dark, the car has original T-3's and wow what a treat. I was trying to figure out if it was my eyes and remembered being younger not thinking anything about it.

Now people on the road don't have enough courtesy to dim the blinding high beams for oncoming traffic.
