Fuel pump on the right shows picture taken from rear of engine with connections to pump facing the rear of the engine. The problem is all pumps that seem to be available for replacement have connections facing the front of engine and connections would be obstructed by radiator hose and not original configuration???

Re: 1962 base motor fuel pump help
I would assume the original fuel pump on a 62 is a 4657. I say that with caution as I'm a 63 guy. Anyway, you need a replacement that has the screws going round in the middle like the one in the picture. When it arrives, you can remove the screw and turn the bottom to match the configuration like the one in the car.

Re: 1962 base motor fuel pump help
Ted,
Here is one that you can "clock" correctly, if need be. It appears that the one on the car has been altered and an altered fuel line made to fit. Shouldn't the fittings be facing the front of the car? Not a '62 guy so I can't say for sure.

Re: 1962 base motor fuel pump help
'62 fuel pump was 4656. The fittings were on the same plane (not higher or lower than the other) at 90 degrees from each other. An AC 4665, 4657, 4432, and 6559 will interchange, they just need to be "clocked" differently. The 3-piece pump is how they originally came. No reason to deviate from that and use a crimped pump. Then use the correct inlet hose and outlet steel line and things will fit and work correctly. The fittings do not face the front of the car. Your first picture shows an essentially correctly clocked pump with an incorrect inlet hose and fitting, and a steel line that tilts about 20 degrees from vertical rather than the correct fully vertical.- Top

Not to be argumentative, just wanting to learn. I agree that the '62 used the 4656 pump, however, I could have sworn the fittings on the 4656 faced the front of the car. Which pump am I thinking of?Leif

Re: 1962 base motor fuel pump help
Not sure which one you are thinking of, but 58-62 has inlet hose coming from the frame and attaching from the rear. Metal output line comes out of the fitting on the pump, curls over the pump and then heads up behind the motor mount and then over the top of the head to the carb/s/fuel injection.- Top

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I was further confused by the PDF Frank posted in this thread. It shows the 4657 pump to have the in & out lines configured like the OP's picture and the 4656 with the in & out lines on the front side. I know you have a BowTie example so maybe the PDF is incorrect??Leif
