    Engine Shipping Crates

For anyone that may be interested, I used a nice plastic crate to ship a 327 motor recently.

Manufactured by Scribner Plastics (1-800-552-5847), www.scribnerplastics.com

One of the $45.00 Summit engine dollies for a 327 (SUM-910057) can be fabricated
a little to fit nicely inside this crate (P/N 5108-V-8). The top part (P/N 5108T) is attached with bolts.

I didn't see a price for the engine crate on the web site. Can you give shed some light on that?

I shipped a 427 a couple of years ago with the Scribner crate. Don't waste your money on purchasing the plastic motor mounts they offer. I did, and when installed on the front of the engine they collapsed. I seem to recall the mounts and crate was around $400 picked up at their Sacramento, CA, factory.

I just bought and received 2 sbc empty blocks I bought off eBay. the sellers placed the empty blocks on a standard wooden pallet, wrapped the bare blocks in shrink wrap, and took them to their local Fastenal stores. Fasenal then shipped the bare blocks to cumberland from half way across the country to Maryland. cost was just a tad over 100 bucks a piece.
no don't you all think the blocks are heading for a "restamping procedure". I just need some weight in the ass end on my pickup for anticipated snowfalls this winter.
I wholeheartedly recommend Fastenal for shipping heavy items thruout the USA. their fees are about 1/4 to 1/3 that of trucking companies. Mike

Sandbags are cheaper and they don't rust in the truck bed.

This past summer I bought a new ZZ427/480 motor from Gandrud Chevrolet in Green Bay for installation into my 67 BB. It came via truck on a custom made pallet set up perfectly to hold/support the motor. The pallet/crate was so nicely made that I couldn't bear the thought of throwing it away. I have it saved down in my basement (much to the chagrin of my wife) and I would be happy to drag it up to Spring or Corvette or Fall carlisle this year if anyone would like it for shipping a BB motor. Just let me know in time. Cheers. C.J.

I have no idea why the photos of the pallet are turned sideways. Cannot correct - sorry.

                  Dan,

I'm sorry to say that I do not have this information. The crate didn't belong to me. Someone shipped me an engine in it,
and then I returned it to them. I guess that a potential buyer would have to get a quote from them over the phone.

                    Mike,

Thanks for that valuable information about Fastenal. I used to ship objects like bumpers, etc. in
the belly of a Greyhound bus, and pick up car parts at their local terminal with no problems.
