Yes two is better than one. Add the green 1970 I saw in Ohio years ago, although I doubt I have the SN of that car from so long ago. I still want to see yours and now the one that William mentioned too. We will be in Florida in February, but Florida is a big state.

We do mention the telescoping antenna in the Judging Manual, as you know. My guess is we are close to around dozen to twenty of those, I saw a March 25 (C25) with the telescoping antenna recently.

No need to email me. I marked up my 70-72 TIM&JG showing this info. But like Terry says, it will be awhile before it gets updated again.

TERRY M are you seeing this ? 70 Judging guide guys THIS SURE LOOKS ORIGINAL TO ME
Not my car -- I helped a friend buy it. It too had that same wierd fixed telescoping antenna. The car is an AM FM Stereo car. It is car 06412.

I do not have a photo of the emissions sticker but I can easily get that. [I got a photo, its AX]. Same for the canister if you tell me exactly what I'm looking for. I may not have noticed it b/c I am typically a 71 base motor guy.

If you have more questions about my friends car PM me and I'd be happy to tell you about it, and set you up with my friend who owns it. He's super excited about it and would love to talk to someone with a twin.

The car I mention now lives in Florida -- I can try to convince my friend to bring it out to the regional.

Even if he brings it to the parking lot I believe we can break away long enough to look at it, but he will have to hunt us down. I am not too hard to find, however.

William- The ECS evaporative Control system is a black plastic "can" about the size of a old fashon coffee can under the drivers fender
just inside the side egg crate vent. It took gasoline vapors and ran them thru a charcoal canister eliminating some emissions from reaching the outside air- I THINK. Calif emissions cars NA9 had the canister a Calif spec carb Q Jet and I believe a smog pump. I thought my car had the wrong carb on it a Cal carb on a CT car, then I figured out what the plastic canister was. I have been told many times over this was a assembly line and if they ran out of the correct " as normally seen" they grabbed the closest thing and put it on. ( Like the tele antenna) I remember that several of the eastern states adopted CA emissions at some point NT and CT included but this seems early for that.

Bob: No smog pump with NA9 as Mark E and Joe L said above.

Bill S: The charcoal canister for NA9 is similar to the 1971 CEC charcoal canister. I believe the exception is a different number of ports.

Thanks for describing the canister -- I just glossed over it assuming all 70's had it b/c my 71's have it. I am 99.999% sure my friends 70 has it too.

I directed him at this thread -- with some or any luck he'll pipe up sometime this morning.

Turns out I was wrong -- I do not think his car has the canister.

With permission from Pat I have included the following photos of his window sticker, his carb, his emissions sticker, his antenna, and where his charcoal canister should be, but appears not to be.

Looks like they threw on what ever was handy, especially after a Jan start to the model year and strife within UAW from strike to strike, probably a wonder they ran as well as they did 70 is a good looking car !

My '70, June 30 build date, has the three-piece telescoping antenna. Original owner says it's original.
