    Steering column collar removal

Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah to all,
I am trying to remove the two cylindrical collars from my steering column to have them repainted ('66). The first collar to which the steering wheel is attached was easy to remove with a puller.
For the second, I removed the turn signal lever, took out the three screws that hold the white plastic piece (which the turn signal lever is attached) and started to slide it up the column but it is binding, should I apply more force to pry it up or is there a trick to getting it up.
I'm assuming that's what I need to do to get that second collar off the column.
    Thanks for your help.
    Rob

I believe most of Jims information is for 67 and newer. The 66 Corvette service manual has step by step instructions on it. You don't say if its a telescopic column or not but they are both covered. I think you are going to have to pull the turn signal switch and its wire harness completely out. You have to disconnect the wires from the connectors to pull them through.
