    1963 Dash Prep for Dye

After responses from a previous thread (and the expense), I am going to try to dye the dash instead of replace. The shop is going to do a test on the driver's side dash, but for overall application, they are suggesting cleaning, priming, and then applying the dye with a spray gun instead of a rattle can. The dash is in good shape - no cracks, etc. Does anyone have a prep and dye process that is recommended?

    Thanks in Advance.

The key is absolute cleanliness....you can use a degreaser such as Simple Green or 409 and scrub the vinyl with a toothbrush. Do it 3-4 times diligently and when you think you're all done -- do it one more time. Don't buy into all those adhesion promoter and primer products. You don't need them. I redyed and restored my dash on my red 63's much faded soft pieces this way and 4 years later they still look new..

Corvette America vinyl dye will adhere just fine Light coats so as not to fill in the grain of the vinyl is all that's needed - 2 to 3 at most...

Frank when I did dads 67 I started to clean it months before I was ready to spray it. I would clean it let it dry. Then do it again a week or so later hoping any thing on the dash would come to the top and I could clean it again. Five or so years later it has held up very well

Nice - thanks for the help. Wish I had done that before taking it to the shop - going to cost more!
