    Hood emblem

On the 66 hood, I want to put on the "corvette" emblem on the hod. I need to know the placement of it - IE. dimensions for placement.
    Thanks

      Mel,

Is your hood a 66/67 hood that has been filled in or a 65 hood. If it is a 66/67 hood that has the holes filled in you should sill have the larger speed nut access holes on the underside.

If it is a 65 hood and you want to do it correctly, you will need to cut the holes on the underside for the speed nut access. I made a templace from 1/4" plywood (picture attached) to align and drill the holes on the top side.

Also, review the link below for dimensions, in particular for the template and dimension of the speed nut access holes on the underside of the hood. I made a paper template using the information in the link to mark for and drill the underside. I used Forstner bits on the underside to get nice clean holes then used a Dremel with cut-of wheel to cut between the two holes to create the oval opening.

        Don,
Are you saying the '66/'67 hoods were the same and were all pre-drilled for the "Corvette" script? Being as the '67 didn't use the script on the hood, did the factory then fill the holes on every '67 hood. Curious.

I believe that all 66 and many 67 hoods had the holes on the underside for the speed nut access. But only the 66 would be drilled on the top side for the actual emblem.

Note I said 'I believe", so I would not bet that all 67s have the holes.

I've check a number, but not a huge number of 67s. I've wondered why the underside holes exist since the only purpose is for accessing the speed nuts that hold the emblem (66 only), and the underside holes appear to be drilled so some amount of labor was expended to do this to a 67 hood that has no need for the holes.

My 67 has the holes on the underside but was never drilled on the top side (looking through the holes on the bottom, there is no indication of upper holes that have been filled). That's what caused me to start looking at other 67 hood.

The only other explanations for the ones I've seen on 67s is that they are not original hoods, or were hoods that were produced during the 66 production year and before the change to 67 was implemented.

            Don,
My June '67 built coupe has those access holes, as well. Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking, earlier, that you were saying all hoods were pre-drilled.

Still a mystery to me why they would continue to cut the underside hole in 67.

Probably because it was the last year of production and the General wasn't going to produce a new part if the old one would work just fine...JMO.

Besides production, perhaps they also used the design as a service replacement hood... thus, spanning a few model years.
