    Bill,

Part # 3901708 is listed for both the '67 Corvette and 68-69 Camaro disc brake 15" wheel described as a 4 clip attachment. Listed also for the Camaro is a multi clip ring #9796696.

Yes Bill, when the Camaro had the optional 15inch steel wheel. Four black clips, clocked at 12,3,6,9 starting at the valve stem opening and an OVAL and not fishbowl valve stem opening. 696 NOS rings are found out there that are NOT configured correctly as original assembly line items (as so often is found with other service items on our cars). If a SERVICE part is manufactured about the same time as the PRODUCTION part of the same part number, in about 99.9% of the cases they will be absolutely identical in every way. PRODUCTION and SERVICE parts produced about the same time originate from the same manufacturing sources and are produced to the exact same specifications and on the exact same tooling (although there may be multiple sets of tooling for some parts) If the SERVICE part of the same part number is manufactured later (or, in some cases even earlier) than the PRODUCTION part, there may be differences. However, the later SERVICE part may be identical to those used in PRODUCTION for a later model year, assuming that the part was used for multiple years.

The term NOS has come to mean "New Old Stock". However, I believe the original term was "New ORIGINAL Stock". Original stock means the SERVICE stock that went into SERVICE inventory about the same time as the PRODUCTION part of the same part number. Over time, since it can be virtually impossible to ascertain just when a SERVICE part was manufactured and since some parts were used over a long period creating the issue of "original for what year", I believe the term "new old stock" has come to replace the term "new original stock".

Sometimes, SERVICE parts of a particular part number may be manufactured and available for a very long time, even 50 or more years in some cases. For a variety of reasons it's almost inevitable that those produced at the beginning of the manufacturing run will be in some ways different than those manufactured at the end.
