What is the correct black for the grille on a 66.

Are you asking about the grille brackets or the area behind the grille. The grille itself is a silver (dull aluminum)......with a chrome "face".

The grill has chrome around the perimeter but the "egg crate" center is black. What shine is the black?

As Stephen says, the '66 grill is chrome and dull aluminum/silver paint. There is no black on a '66 grill. Except for the brackets, as previously noted.

Thanks guys for the information. I am the third owner. I bought it in 1976 with 26,200 miles when my 62 caught fire and toasted 6 months after i did a total restore on it. Today it has 27,700 and I am doing a body off restoration. Since I bought it in the 70's I assumed the grill was the original color.
