Has anyone seen blue inspection marks on the part of a tie rod end that threads into the tube or have any knowledge of their purpose? These tie rod ends have the blue paint on the ends as expected but all marks are the same shade of blue. That might make a person think that the extra blue paint might indicate left or right threads rather than the usual different shades. Nope. Only two tie rod ends have the extra paint and both were on the left side of the car. Just curious.

Rick------
For C2-C3 Corvettes I believe the paint daubs indicate left or right hand thread. By extension, I would imagine that C1 was the same, although I am personally unfamiliar with the C1 tie rod ends.
For C2-C3. the right hand thread tie rod ends, GM #3826814, usually have a yellow paint daub. The left hand thread tie rod ends, GM #3826596, occasionally are seen with a blue paint daub and, often, with no paint daub.
Attached are some photos of NOS GM #3826814 tie rod ends [none for sale].

Re: C1 Tie Rod End Inspection Marks
Rick,
Nice table with inspection mark paint colors and applications in the 56-7 Judging Manual.

Re: C1 Tie Rod End Inspection Marks
BTW, they're Identification Paint Marks - not Inspection. The reason two different shades of blue paint were used on the tie rod ends was to make sure opposite threads were used on one of the assembly ends.
An Inspection thin blue paint mark is on the rearend pinion nut that indicates it was torqued.

Re: C1 Tie Rod End Inspection Marks
Thanks for the responses. I neglected to mention that this is a '62
Bob, are you saying that you had those same paint daubs on all 4 tie rod ends?
I guess it's time to upgrade to the newest 56-7 manual....
