    Windshield sealing 63 coupe

I have a 63 coupe that has had the windshield replaced and it leaks at the top and bottom. This is a driver and would like ideas on how to seal it and what would be the best sealer to use.
    Thanks for information Joe Eyl

If the moldings are already back on, they will need to come off to seal it. The factory used a non hardening sealer.

The factory used something that looked like old fashioned white or grey puddy. Similar to the material used by a glass installer on a wooden window frame. I am guessing that the old material probably had asbestos in it as most of those old materials did. I skipped installing this material and when I took the car to the national in Rhode Island in 2016 it rained hard and I got flooded with water later I took the moldings off and used glazing compound which I bought at a local hardware store. It looks similar but will it work at keeping the water out ? who knows. I generally don't drive in the rain so I'll probably never find out. The factory didn't skimp on that material, they used as much as they could and the cars still frequently leaked.

Have the W/S removed and done right by a professional.

Its tough to cure leaks 100% with the molding on but you if you have a specific area you can sure give it a try.....lower corners seem to be the worst... Its a stopgap but could help for a while... I got all but a small PS corner leak this way but I avoid the rain and put some blue tape over the molding/windshield if rain is in my future. Someday I'll take everything apart and reseal it ALL.

I took the old broken windshield out and the frame was in excellent condition with the original silver paint still on and no rust. The windshield had the area around it filled with soft grey material and this was an original windshield so the pictures look like the same thing. I had the new windshield put in by a professional corvette body shop and they put the trim back on also. I took the top trim off and it looks like there is no sealer around the rubber and also down the sides. I have used 3-M beading and glazing compound # 08509 on other cars with good results but not on a C2 and was wondering if anybody knows if this will work or a better sealer around. This 3-M compound can be pumped in and it remains soft. The instructions on the tubes say for windshield sealing.

The material Frank showed in photos above goes between the glass and the gasket. It is possible for that area to leak but I think most leaks are between the rubber gasket and the metal frame especially in the corners where the gasket doesn't fit the contour of the frame very well. I used black dum dum material between the glass in the gasket then the puddy material between the gasket and the steel frame. I haven't had the car in the rain since I installed the window so I don't know if it is water tight or not.

My windshield was installed by a professional and it leaks.

My 63 leaked so badly when a little water was put onto the windshield for an Operations check, you might as well just dumped the water on the carpet.
                        Needs some more work.

I think that's exactly right....the rubber-to-frame corners are the worst to seal. If you look at examples of rusty birdcages this is where a lot of the "swiss cheese" occurs over time...
