    65 Fan Clutch

Getting ready to install new Dewitts radiator on my 65 327/300 coupe. What is the best fan clutch I can install that would be local purchase from a parts store. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a original. Fan clutch hasn't worked for quite a while. Regardless of engine temp. it is always engaged. Thanks in advance.

One thing I should have mentioned is that it's quite unusual for a fan clutch to be "locked up" all the time. Usually, the failure mode is that the clutch will not "engage" and the engine consequently overheats in certain situations (like low speed or idling).

Joe...With the engine cold and not started it is very hard to turn the fan. With the engine at operating temp after a long drive , I turn off the engine and the fan is as hard to turn. After the engine cools completely, no difference. Clutch has been on the motor since the late 80's so I"m thinking it's bad. Thanks for your reply.

If it truly is "locked up", I'd just leave it on there - it would look correct and yet provide maximum cooling. For driving, many folks (including me) spend good money for a fan clutch eliminator from one of the vendors to accomplish the same thing.

Kent...You're reasoning is why I have not replaced the clutch when I noticed the problem a couple of years ago. I figured it was getting cooling all the time so no worries. I'm replacing the radiator soon and figured it would be a good time to replace the clutch also. Thank you for your comment.
