    Spare Tire Carrier finish

In the 1967 6th edition of the Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide on page 90 it states; "The carrier is painted semi-gloss black and held in place by the V-shaped reinforcement bracing assembly that is constructed of two steel angle bars that are welded to the stamped latch." Is this correct? Or should the fiberglass carrier be bare fiberglass and only the angle iron reinforcements be painted?

    John,
I don't have my 7th edition TIM&JG in front of me but I can tell you that my '67 carrier is natural (bare) fiberglass and the v-bracket is semi-gloss...never any point deducts.

Bare (black) glass....... V-bracker painted semi-gloss black as Leif states.

I restored many of these spare tire tubs and lids, over 200 pieces. The fiberglass was not painted.

Yup. Never seen an original one that was painted.

Thank you all for the responses. I hope the wording in the 7th edition of the manual is updated. it is a little confusing, so wanted to verify.

Enzo, You are too kind. I had a lot of fun and met some great members. Eventually, my health mad my the decision to stop. The dust and chemicals were hard on me.
