1963 Balancer Bolt - L84 Special Washer

First, thank you for this forum - great wealth of information!


Question - In the first picture, is the special washer (part # 3739422) - all the way to the left - correct for a 1963 fuelie with an early February production date?





As a comparison, the pictures show four balancer bolt assemblies (from L to R):


#1 - My car, which the bolt seems original per NCRS TIM & Judging Guide and forum posts
#2 - Vendor A
#3 - Vendor B

I have a picture of a December car's balancer bolt. This is a 340HP car but it should be identical.
It does have the hole in the bolt head. Just not showing.
The lock washer in your pictures doesn't appear to be the same.
No measurements at this time. I will be pulling it off soon to have the rubber restored.
I will record the measurement then for future reference. However I am confident someone else will have them before I do.

Troy, I believe the 63 high horse engines had a TR head mark bolt with the cross drilled head and a thick washer and a star lock washer. your original bolt and washers look like my 63 high horse car. the thick washer with the SS marking I cannot confirm as my car is together but surely will function the same GM used many manufactures for nuts and bolts.

Background - Painted the 360HP engine and now starting re-assembly. Was cleaning up the harmonic balancer/crankshaft bolt (3815933) along with the lock washer (131718) and special washer. Special washer was coated in grime. Noticed it had an interesting double “SS” stamping.


As a comparison, the pictures show four balancer bolt assemblies (from L to R):

#4 - Procured from recent purchase of miscellaneous corvette bolts and it seemed to match a ‘67 description in this forum.
Note: The stand alone special washer in background was obtained from Vendor C as NOS but I noticed it was missing the “F” stamping shown on the website.


The “SS” stamping is prominent and I do not want to put it back into the car unless it is correct. Could always flip the stamping so it faces the engine, but wanted to confirm diameter and thickness as well.

The bolt and washer on the right are for a big block. That bolt is 1/2-20. The small block bolt is 7/16-20. The big block washer, GM #3864814, is also larger in OD.
