    Rebuilding C1 front suspension

First a big thanks for your indirect help on giving me the confidence to take on rebuilding the front end on my 1960 corvette to all those who went before me and particularly Tom Parsons

All was going smoothly until i was taking apart the Upper A arms and noticed some play in the upper inner bushing..

the bolt was severely worn, and reading your advice to others, i followed your direction and got the bad part out with a pipe wrench.. I felt i only had to take out the worn shaft.. below is a pic of the worn shaft in my hand and the original shaft still in the tower..

Now that it is out i am not sure if the bushing welded to the cross member tower is good for the bolt.. it looks good to me, but not sure if that is what its supposed to look like..

What should i look for.. i have some pictures for your reference.. thanks.

    Joe

Bushing? Are you talking about the threaded part that is spot welded to the tower. If you are replacing the upper shaft the directions in the service manual are very good . I used a old bushing to screw the shaft back in the tower.

There are indistinct threads, with one side slightly less diameter than the other, designed so the shaft can only be inserted in one direction. You want to be careful when screwing it in, measuring as you get close, so you do not over screw it. You want to avoid having to back it out to even it up so it doesn't end up loose.

Thanks, i will be careful to check that each side has the same number of thread exposed..
