    Re: paint or powder coat

I restored a Chevelle in the 90's and still own it.
The engine compartment needs to be completely redone.
It was driven some but likely looks like any GM car would after just a few years.
Powder coating has none of the same issues. Years later you can wipe it down and it will looks like new.
I highly recommend it whenever possible.
I plan on powder coating everything I can next time around.
However, it doesn't have to qualify for NCRS.
Someone else will have to comment on the judging of such items.
I am especially interested in deductions for powder coating the frame.

If the powder coat is done right meaning not too thick and the correct gloss it shouldn't receive deductions. I have powder coated frame and components including the complete engine and never gotten deductions or comments.

The trick is finding a powder coater who understands the look you are after, and is willing to work with you.

            Robert,
No. It didn't come with powder coat. You will lose CDCIF points.

It was not built with reproduction parts either, so what is wrong with powder coating? maybe George should take a little closer look
              at his cars.

It only has to look like the original finish.
If you can get a powder coater to make the finish look like the original finish, mission accomplished.

If you can get your grandkid to make it look like the original finish using Crayola crayons, mission accomplished.

It will not only be "mission accomplished" but you will have superior longevity compared to paint. JMHO-Larry

                    Hello;
During the powder coating process the part is heated 15 to 20 minutes at a temperatureflexible.

Don't ask me how I know this.

I don't know why they think they need to heat it so hot. When I powder coat at home I only heat to around 160 and that works well.
