    Corvette Bolts

I spent most of my life in production environments and even today I can be amazed at what happens in manufacturing.

For those of you who think everything was cookie cutter at GM look at the photo of the bolts I found today.

This is not trick photography either. needless to say, no two Corvettes are exactly the same --- but of course we knew that already

Amazing what the General accepted from suppliers sometimes

If your supplier just delivered a month's supply of valve cover bolts needed to keep production running, and the only defect is cosmetic, would you reject them?

No and I am sure when needed the manager sent someone to the local hardware store to get a few boxes all the time. they never figured guys would go insane over mismatched hardware.

          Good Morning Jimmy,

I was buying lots of classic bolts from a guy up in Pennsylvania years ago and ran across these two anomalies. I'm sure Towne Robinson didn't intend for errors to slip by but as we can see they did.

These two won't be used on my cars. On display in my shop now as a novelty. Take care, Mike

I think we should put them on a judged car so judges can see that not everything is ABSOLUTE

That would be interesting but probably still not worth a point. 20% of one point is a slash and a comment. (Depending on how you weigh the hardware)

                  Jimmy,

So I could use my two bolts in the upper fan shroud corners of my '66 during judging. What a reaction there'd be! Tempting.

I would suggest installing them in a place where judges would have to use a mirror to inspect --- so when they viewed them in the mirror the font would be oriented correctly.

Not over 50 years later, that's for sure.

                            Ed,

My thought exactly. And most people probably wouldn't even make the connection that the headwork must be mirrored.

You guys are a fun group with all that judging speculation. I am enjoying the humor.
                              It's a good life!
